Retaining Wall Drain Pipe, often referred to as wall drain or drain tile, is a perforated drainage pipe designed to relieve water pressure behind retaining walls and hardscape structures. Proper drainage is essential for maintaining the long-term stability and performance of retaining walls, as trapped water can create hydrostatic pressure that may lead to wall movement or failure.
Installed at the base of the retaining wall within a layer of clean drainage gravel, wall drain pipe collects and redirects groundwater away from the structure. The perforations in the pipe allow water to enter and flow through the pipe to a safe discharge point, helping keep the backfill area properly drained.
This drainage system is a critical component in most engineered retaining wall installations and is commonly required when constructing segmental retaining walls, garden walls, and structural landscape walls.
Key Features
• Perforated pipe designed to collect and redirect groundwater
• Helps reduce hydrostatic pressure behind retaining walls
• Improves long-term wall stability and performance
• Flexible corrugated design for easy installation
• Compatible with standard drainage gravel backfill systems
Common Applications
• Retaining wall drainage systems
• Landscape drainage installations
• Garden wall construction
• Patio and hardscape drainage management
• Residential and commercial landscape projects
For best results, wall drain pipe should be installed with clean drainage gravel and proper outlet discharge, following recommended retaining wall construction guidelines.
