How to Measure Sod for Your Calgary Yard
The easiest way to estimate sod is to break your lawn into simple rectangular sections. Measure the length and width of each section in feet, calculate the square footage of each area, and then combine them for a total. Typical Sod Calculation Examples
Small Front Lawn
A 20 ft × 15 ft lawn area equals 300 square feet. With 10% extra for waste, the recommended order becomes 330 square feet of sod.
Medium Backyard
A 35 ft × 25 ft backyard equals 875 square feet. With 10% extra, the order target becomes about 963 square feet.
Split Yard Layout
If one area is 18 ft × 12 ft and another is 30 ft × 20 ft, your total is 816 square feet. With 10% waste added, you would target about 898 square feet.
Sod Ordering Tips Before Delivery
Measuring your lawn correctly is only part of the job. Good sod results also depend on base preparation, timing, and watering. Before ordering, make sure your area is cleared, graded properly, and ready for installation as soon as the sod arrives.
